The Youth Council Presents: Equity in Local Government

This panel brings together local civic leaders and elected officials from towns across Maine. These speakers promote a positive community for their town employees and citizens. The general purpose of the panel is to educate the public about the significance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in local government.

Inspiration for the panel was taken from examining who within town government has the most power and influence surrounding different issues and topics. Two members of the youth council explored these structures in their respective towns, Old Orchard Beach and Scarborough and the panel was born. While it was interesting to see how the hierarchy of towns functions, this panel will go further to specifically look into how town officials with different positions and job titles incorporate all voices and perspectives in civic work.

In this event, each panelist will give some background on themselves and the work they do. Then they will answer a few questions about diverse leadership and constituent representation followed by a question and answer period.
