Census Update: Challenges and Threats

Hosted On Zoom
Wednesday, September 9, 2020
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
The Census Bureau is rushing to wrap up its 2020 count by the end of this month. But advocates warn that this deadline threatens the validity of the Census, which is the key to a fair democracy for the next decade.

Join this webinar to learn how the count is going here in Maine and around the country. We’ll also cover the controversy over when to end the count; challenges to counting vulnerable populations; and how White House efforts to exclude undocumented citizens may affect redistricting in 2021.

Census results shape the future of communities, as census data informs how billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed for health clinics, school lunch programs, disaster recovery initiatives, and other critical programs and services for the next 10 years.
